Building the FIELD // LAB Dock standard
The Dock is a proposed way for packs, pouches and a carry-on to connect to each other. It is still being engineered. This note covers the idea and what has to be proven before it ships.

The problem with separate bags.
Most people who travel with technology own more than one bag. A daily backpack, something bigger for longer trips, a carry-on, maybe a sling. Each has its own organization. So every time you switch bags, the kit gets unpacked and rebuilt.
That is where things go missing. The charger stays in yesterday's bag. The SSD with the files you need is on the desk at home. It is a small cost, paid over and over.
Travel makes it worse. The laptop comes out at security, chargers move to a day bag at the hotel, and the backpack rides on a roller with a strap that keeps slipping.
One attachment idea, two scales.
The Dock is our proposal for a shared interface across FIELD // LAB carry.
At the bag scale, a Quick Dock would connect the Command Pack or the Traverse Travel Pack to the Horizon Carry-On. The design goal is a one-handed connect, so you can attach a pack to the case at a gate while holding a phone. The Traverse Travel Pack also keeps a luggage pass-through sleeve that slides over a trolley handle, because a familiar fallback is worth having.
At the pouch scale, Nexus Organizer pouches for cables, power and drives would clip or magnetically mount inside the Command Pack, Traverse Travel Pack or Horizon Carry-On. You set up your kit once and move the pouches between bags.
The Transit Duffel and Vector Sling are designed to be Dock compatible too. That would carry the idea into weekend trips and daily essentials.
What is still being engineered.
The Dock is a proposed architecture. There is no working prototype, and we haven't chosen a mechanism. The renders show intent. Several questions need engineering answers first.
Load. A pack docked on a carry-on puts weight on the case shell and the pack's back panel while rolling over curbs and jet bridge thresholds. The interface has to hold without damaging either one.
Release. A one-handed connect only helps if the release is just as easy and never happens by accident.
Magnets or clips. Magnetic mounting is quick, but holding force is limited and we need to confirm it behaves well near cards and devices. Clips are secure and slower. The Nexus concept lists both, and testing will decide if one wins.
Tolerances. Soft packs and hard shell cases usually come from different factories. A standard only works if parts made in different places fit together every time.
Why it has to be a standard.
If the Dock works, each new FIELD // LAB bag fits the ones you already have. We want people to add pieces over time and keep using what they already bought.
A standard also constrains us. Once an interface ships, changing it breaks compatibility with every bag already out there. So we want the geometry right before any bag goes to production.
That is part of why Drop 001 is clothing. The Atlas Overshirt, Axis Pant, Vector Fleece and Pivot Short can be made together by one apparel manufacturer. The carry system needs dock engineering and a bag factory quote first. Until then the Command Pack, Traverse Travel Pack, Nexus Organizer and Horizon Carry-On stay in development, and you can ask to be notified when one is ready to preorder.
